While biometric technology continues to advance to the point where its a reliable method of authentication, some of the barriers to its overall acceptance in society may be too much for technology alone to overcome.
As written on Computerworld, evangelical Christians are using websites to promote the evil nature of biometrics, claiming that usage of them is akin to having the “mark of the beast” as written about in the Bible in the Book of Revelation.
Religious campaigns against the installation of biometric technology in places such as schools are just one form of backlash. Other concerns about biometric implementation stem around privacy and recent studies that show biometrics aren’t as foolproof as originally stated, with hackers finding ways to steal and use various biometric identifiers.
Still other users associate biometrics with criminal behavior and don’t want it to become a part of their everyday life.
However, support for and continual implementation of biometric systems may eventually help persuade the public to accept the technology.
