Blackberry phone users will soon be able to utilize new security technology developed by IT software company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), according to a TMC News article. The G&D Mobile Security Card utilizes the soon to be released Blackberry Device Software 5.0 and provides incoming and outgoing message encryption, e-mail signature services and user authentication.
The card works by having the user insert the Mobile Security Card into the phone’s microSD slot wherein it can act as both an independent cryptographic module as well as one gigabyte of external memory storage. Further, the card authenticates users via a two-factor authentication process to create an additional layer of security keeping unauthorized users from gaining access to sensitive information on the phone.
Officials from G&D expect the card’s capabilities to easily integrate into any organizations security and IT standards as well as its user-friendly operation to help move cards out to a number of commercial as well as personal blackberry users.
