MasterCard has announced that BP/Aral will deploy MasterCard PayPass contactless payments terminals in its service stations across the UK, Germany and Switzerland over the next two years.
The upgrade will allow BP/Aral customers with MasterCard PayPass or Maestro PayPass cards to pay for fuel and other purchases, such as coffee and snacks, by simply tapping their card against a reader at the point of sale.
“Tap and Go” purchases are limited to £15 in the UK, €25 in Germany and 40 Swiss Francs in Switzerland. Customers can use the same cards for higher value transactions, but a PIN or signature is required.
According to MasterCard, there are currently 1,170 BP branded sites in the UK, more than 400 in Switzerland and 2,500 Aral branded sites in Germany.
