The Canton Public Library, Mi., has recently begun migrating its annual circulation of more than 2 million items to RFID technology provided by Integrated Technology Group.
The ITG RFID system will streamline CPL circulation processes and allow staff to better focus on customer service. In addition, the system will offer self-checkout functionality as well as cut down on the time-consuming check-in process.
An automated eleven-bin sorting system will be installed that checks items in, reactivates security, separates exceptions and holds, and organizes materials into bins according to library defined criteria. These bins can be monitored remotely via computer login. The system even verifies that audio and video materials are all present and accounted for and in their correct cases.
Also installed was ITG’s RFID security system equipped with ExitWatch, which better provides staff with vital item information when the alarm on a security pedestal has been triggered.
