Payment solutions provider Carta Worldwide has integrated the MasterCard Mobile Over-the-Air Provisioning Service (MOTAPS) for NFC programs.
MOTAPS is designed to provide issuers with an easier way of rolling out NFC programs, like PayPass, by enabling owners of NFC handsets to set up their MasterCard accounts directly from the handset itself. Personalization data is delivered within seconds and the handset is then immediately enabled for contactless payments.
According to MasterCard, previous NFC trials have been slowed down by manual processes required by existing personalization bureaus, or integration with third party providers tied to specific mobile operators. MOTAPS is designed to eliminate these constraints by enabling the secure delivery of personalization data directly to the customer device at the point of issuance via a standardized interface that works across NFC ecosystem participants.
Transact Network Limited, the issuer supporting this first MOTAPS launch, is now working with MasterCard and Carta to evolve MOTAPS into a full multi-channel personalization solution, leveraging the service to support In-Market issuance. MasterCard says this extension to the solution will give customers the ability to personalize a complete range of existing and emerging PayPass form factors through a single interface.
Keith Hobbs, MD of Carta Financial, comments: “MasterCard MOTAPS finally unlocks the potential of NFC handsets, facilitating a new way to pay for millions of individuals. It will enable issuers to provide customers with a straightforward mobile handset personalization solution, broadening issuance opportunities and taking advantage of the rapidly growing market for contactless products.”
