DERMALOG breaking new ground in biometrics
DERMALOG announced two new spins on the company’s biometrics offerings. The first is an enhancement to the LF10 Fingerprint Scanner that now adds signature capture that can record signatures alongside a biometric fingerprint scan. The fingerprint and signature are recorded on the same scanning window. This means that, other than a pen, no additional hardware is required, not even a signature pad.
In many countries, this technology covers the need for multifunctional devices for biometric identification. For example, it can be used for secure functions including visa, security documents applications, elections, etc.
DERMALOG is also releasing its Interactive ICAO Face Check. The Face Check software is the first interactive tool to combine face capture with simultaneous check in accordance with the standards prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Face Check addresses in real time the requirements of Standard ISO 19794-5 developed by the ICAO: frontal face image, neutral background, visibility of the face and correct facial expression. The resulting image can then be used for facial recognition.
Infineon launches Integrity Guard chip for e-passports
Infineon Technologies AG has introduced a new security controller for electronic passports with an increased memory density and data transfer rate.
Infineon’s new SLE78 with “Integrity Guard” technology offers more than three times the memory space for secure storage of personal and biometric data as well as for electronic visas or entry and exit stamps. To facilitate immigration security checks, the new security controller enables eight times faster contactless read times by electronic readers.
As an added benefit for both travelers and airport operators alike, contactless readers at electronic checkpoints in airports can now read passport data in an average of less than one second.
The new SLE78 security chip offers a total memory density of 700 kBytes. In addition to the approximately 200 kBytes of space required for program code, the new SLE78 offers up to 500 kBytes of flash-based memory capacity for other, variable data.
In addition to the cardholders’ personal and biometric data, the SLE78 also can securely store multiple electronic visas, hundreds of electronic entry and exit stamps and even loyalty points for frequent traveler programs. The increased memory space is a valuable feature as a major portion of e-passport memory is used to store data such as nationality, issue date, and other info.
Infineon is showcasing its e-passport solution, which implements the SAC (Supplemental Access Control) mechanism required in next generation e-passports, at CARTES, Paris this week.
Infineon, Oracle partner to deliver smart card solution for Government
Infineon Technologies will partner with Oracle to provide secure smart card solutions for the development of government applications.
This week at CARTES, Paris, Infineon is introducing the first ever security controller that leverages Oracle’s implementation of Java Card 3.0 Classic. The combination of Infineon’s SLE 78 with Integrity Guard, and Oracle’s latest high-performance Java Card implementation, provides numerous advantages to manufacturers and service providers alike.
The marriage of Infineon and Oracle technology will enable system integrators, manufacturers and suppliers to easily introduce tailored applications for health care, social security and identification without compromising security. In addition, it facilitates the introduction of multiple applications onto a single card.
Features of the solution include:
- Very high bitrate communication and a wide range of crypto accelerators set to speed up transactions
- Support of ISO 14443 Type A and B communication and CIPURSE, the secure open standard for transport applications, provides a truly open solution that supports compliance with public procurement regulations
- Integrity Guard-based security features including encrypted storage and processing of sensitive data
- 16-bit architecture to speed up transaction time for the end user.
achelos talks end-to-end security
achelos GmbH is presenting its comprehensive product and solution portfolio for end-to-end security this week at CARTES, Paris.
achelos, an independent software development company, is providing information on security technology solutions based on Common Criteria and FIPS. The key focus is on solutions for smart metering, eHealth and eID.
The German Federal Office for Information Security has defined the requirements for functionality, interoperability, security and testing of intelligent metering systems in the technical guideline TR 03109. Local energy providers are required to operate a communication infrastructure that is secured by encryption, the components of which must identify each other through the verification of certified keys before a secure communication takes place.
Services provided by achelos include conception, project management, specification, software development/integration, quality assurance, security testing and prevention measures.
HID Global adds built-in encoding, optional Wi-Fi to FARGO printer line
HID Global has unveiled an update to its FARGO Direct-to-Card (DTC) printer line that greatly expands secure issuance capabilities for any size private or government organization producing ID, access control, payment or loyalty cards.
HID’s FARGO DTC printers now feature an embedded multi-technology iCLASS SE Encoder that will simplify card technology migration and the personalization of large ID card batches. The DTC portfolio’s expanded in-line personalization features will offer faster speeds and increased flexibility with an optional wireless accessory that allows users to issue cards at anytime, from anywhere.
Features of the enhanced FARGO printer line include:
- Enhanced DTC line increases flexibility with iCLASS SE embedded encoder technology and in-line card personalization capabilities that enable one-step printing and encoding of multiple credential technologies.
- Significant improvements in speeds enables users to produce more cards, more quickly, with the enhanced security of AES-256 encryption, locking hoppers and printer password protection on the DTC4500e.
- Portfolio includes the industry’s only FARGO-printer-compatible wireless accessory module for “anytime, anywhere” card issuance with Asure ID card Personalization Software.
Datacard enhances desktop platform, adds next-gen security for ID cards
Datacard Group announced enhancements to its desktop family in the form of new hardware innovations, as well as more secure supplies and overlays. With the new enhancements, Datacard hopes to deliver an optimal mix of affordability, security and durability for government, corporate and school ID card programs.
After consulting with many security-minded customers and following extensive research and development, Datacard’s new enhancements include:
- The Datacard SD460 card printer and laminator
- A new inline lamination module added to the Datacard CD800 card printer
- New patent-pending tactile impression feature that makes cards more secure
- New serialized laminates with optional integrated bar code reader
The all-in-one CD800 card printer and new SD460 card printer both use direct-to-card printing, as well as encodes and laminates in one pass, offering increased reliability and faster throughput. Both printers also offer a new tactile feature that distinctly and physically impresses a tamper-evident image into the card substrate at the time of personalization. In doing this, the printer creates an extra level of overt security that makes any alteration attempts to the card clearly visible.
In addition, Datacard Group is offering serialized laminates that work with the optional integrated bar code reader to enhance security and audit control of supplies. Designed to help deter alteration and counterfeiting of documents, this optional security feature is available with DuraGard and DuraShield custom laminates and overlays.
