Irish convenience store chain Centra says it will become the country’s first retailer to accept contactless payments, according to Businessandleadership.com.
Expected to launch in select Centra stores later this year, the technology will allow customers to pay for items costing €15 or under with a tap of a Visa payWave-enabled debit card.
Centra says they will expand the service to the rest of their 464 stores in 2012.
The news follows Bank of Ireland’s recently announced plans to roll out contactless Visa debit cards to its customers later this year.
