Chile’s national records administration has selected Morpho, a part of the Safran Group, to produce its new e-ID cards and e-passports. The contract is a 10-year deal that falls under the country’s new identification and ID and travel document issuance system.
Morpho will be in charge of the entire production system that will produce the IDs and other documents in secure production sites. Morpho will also provide enrollment stations for biometric data capture in the form of photos and fingerprints.
Chile has opted to use polycarbonate for the manufacture of its IDs, which is a highly resistant material. It’s the first Morpho client in Latin America to do so.
Once the project is complete, Morpho will be able to add Chile to its list of 17 other Latin American countries in which its provided biometric and identity systems.
