Citizens registering for the China Resident Identity Card can use DigitalPersona’s TouchChip TCS1 silicon sensor fingerprint readers. The Ministry of Public Security under general technical requirements GA/T 1011-2012 has certified the sensors for the China Resident Identity Card.
As of Jan. 2012, the new China Resident Identity Card Law requires citizens to have their fingerprints recorded when applying for, renewing or replacing their resident identity cards. China has more than a billion resident ID cards in circulation and that number is expected to grow. Citizens use their ID cards when voting, buying homes, accessing government services and other essential activities.
Miaxis Biometrics Co. and Shandong Synthesis Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. — both Chinese manufacturers — are using DigitalPersona’s silicon sensor to meet the certification requirements.
In addition to fingerprint readers certified for the China Resident Identity Card, DigitalPersona’s TouchChip sensors have been successfully integrated into bank ID terminals. This identification solution enables banks in China to guard against teller fraud by providing a biometric audit trail of financial transactions.
