Cubic receives extension for LA Metro fare collection system support services

Cubic Transportation Systems has received an extension to their system support services contract – an increase of approximately $9 million – from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Agency (Metro).
The extension covers components of the universal fare system (UFS) fare collection system that is the foundation of the regional contactless smart card branded as TAP. The TAP smart card-based regional system for LA Metro and participating agencies is built on the Nextfare hardware and software platform for managing fare collection and operational data.
Cubic’s services contract includes the corrective and preventative maintenance of all rail equipment include gating equipment, rail validators, ticket vending machines, full-featured and limited office ticketing machines, garage computers, mobile phone validators, the Metro central system, the communications network and the regional central system which enables the system to be used among participating agencies in LA County.
Cubic also supports the garage computer systems, wireless access points and depot repairs for fareboxes for LA Metro and participating municipal operators as well as depot repair for the regional point of sale network.
