The Czech Republic’s Komerční banka has announced a partnership with Visa Europe, Telefónica and Samsung to trial SIM-based NFC payments.
The first 2,000 Samsung Galaxy S III smart phone owners who sign up for the pilot will be able to swap out their old SIM cards for an NFC-enabled KB Mobile Card that can power contactless mobile payments at the point of sale.
The KB Mobile Karta can be linked to an existing KB bank account or customers can set up a new account with Komercní banka. The SIM card comes preloaded with 250CZK ($12.60) of credit from Komerčni banka, along with a free mobile payment application from Visa Europe.
The SIM cards are now available for free at 19 specialized O2 Guru stores across the Czech Republic. Click here for a full list.
