Datacard Offers New Proximity Card Features for Card Printers and Identity Software
PHILADELPHIA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 10, 2002–New HID proximity card capabilities help organizations reduce costs, enhance security
Datacard Group introduced inline proximity card reading capabilities for its Select(TM) and Magna(TM) Platinum Series desktop card printers today at the ASIS 48th Annual Seminar and Exhibit in Philadelphia. This new optional feature will allow Datacard(R) printers to read facility codes and identification numbers stored on proximity cards while photos, text and other identity elements are being printed on the cards. A new, low-cost plug-in for Datacard(R) ID Works(R) identity software then allows that information to be stored in a central identity database, along with photos and demographic data for individual cardholders.
Currently, most organizations looking to build a single database either enter facility codes and identification numbers manually or they create customized applications to handle the job. “Our new capabilities will make the process simpler, more affordable and more secure,” said Martin Kearsley, senior vice president and general manager of Datacard’s software and solutions group.
“Creating a single identity database makes it easier to issue replacement cards or validate the identity and privileges of a particular cardholder,” Kearsley said. “This is an important breakthrough for corporations, government agencies, universities and other organizations that use proximity cards for access control or time-and-attendance systems.”
The printers and plug-in options are compatible with standard HID proximity cards, including ISOProx II(R), DuoProx II(R), Smart ISOProx II(R), which are available in various proximity bit formats. “We worked closely with RF IDeas(R) to integrate the pcProx(R) enrollment reader and develop these new capabilities, ensuring broad compatibility with the most popular cards and readers in use today,” Kearsley said.
“This provides security-minded organizations with a truly integrated enrollment and proximity card personalization solution from a proven market leader in identity solutions,” Kearsley said. “Our customers will now be able to manage card personalization, access control and enrollment in one integrated process. We believe the time savings, cost reductions and security improvements will be significant.”
