Mobile Identity Verification Solution Honored by Security Industry AssociationEXTON, Penn., April 6 /PRNewswire/ – Datastrip’s DSVII-SC (Smart Card Edition), a handheld contact/contactless ID card and passport reader with an integrated fingerprint sensor for matching a live fingerprint to a stored biometric template, was recognized as the best new biometric product of the year in the Security Industry Association’s New Product Showcase at the ISC West conference last week. The reader is designed for secure mobile identity verification in locations where there is no physical door structure to accommodate stationary equipment.
The award reflects the speed, versatility and practical applications of the Datastrip product. The two-pound portable unit can complete identity verification in as little as one second, and is the only device in its class to support contact and contactless smart cards, multiple biometric algorithms, and wired as well as 802.11 and Bluetooth wireless communication with GSM, GPRS and modem support via compact flash. The DSVII-SC is suitable for use in virtually any mobile identity verification scenario.
This versatility gives systems integrators the ability to meet the needs of disparate identification projects with one hardware platform, and ensures that end users will not have to switch their equipment if they change or upgrade their applications in the future.
“Our new DSVII-SC reader truly raises the bar on biometric ID card readers in terms of performance and flexibility, and this award validates our product strategy as well as the usefulness of the product in the marketplace,” said Steve Blackmore, Datastrip Chief Executive Officer. “With heightened concerns over public safety in this post-September 11 era, products like ours are absolutely necessary for initiatives designed to extend identity verification efforts beyond traditional fixed-doorway checkpoints.”
The DSVII-SC integrates a smart card reader that can read identity data stored on both contact and contactless ID cards, a 500 dpi fingerprint sensor for on-the-spot one-on-one biometric verification, and a large color digital touchscreen display that presents decoded photographs, biographic information and/or signatures for visual comparison with the cardholder. The touchscreen enables operators to select commands without scrolling through menus, and is readable in direct sunlight or low-light conditions.
The device can be used with employee access cards, national ID cards, driver’s licenses, health cards, the new contactless-based passports, and other identity documents; in federal security initiatives such as the US-Visit, Common Access Card (CAC) and Transportation Worker ID Card (TWIC) programs; and at locations ranging from border crossings, customs checkpoints and military bases to seafaring vessels, trucking company docks, building entry points and parking lot gates.
About the New Product Showcase
The Security Industry Association’s New Product Showcase recognizes electronic security products, peripherals and services that have a totally new concept or design, or deliver a new level of performance; utilize technology or methods new to the security field; and satisfy customer needs not currently met by existing offerings. The competition is held twice each year at the International Security Conference (ISC) EXPO West and at the National Summit on Security (NSS), previously ISC East. Judges have at least 10 years of active experience as a security dealer, specifier or practitioner, with current responsibility for the specification or purchasing of security products.
