Details extracted from any Visa-branded card, not just Barclays

viaForensics, the company hired by Channel 4 News to crack the Barclays card, has apparently demonstrated that it can also lift data from any Visa-branded card, according to The Register.
Previously, the mobile security company exhibited how it could extract data from Visa cards issued by Barclays. Now, viaForensics claims it can lift the customer’s name from any Visa-branded card.
However, viaForensics still remains unable to extract details that would be required to undertake fraudulent activity on sites that required a PIN or signature (CVV) code. The names being shared on the card is reportedly in early, but still valid, versions of the proximity-payment standard.
Barclays said that sharing the name isn’t a significant security risk anyway, “If a retailer is processing payments without CVV a code, the name isn’t probably going to make a lot of difference.”
