Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the launch of a new Combi card, which would function dually as a fare card for public transportation and credit or debit card, according to Khaleej Times.
The card will feature two micro-chips, one of which will hold the functions of the existing Nol smart transit pass, and the other will contain credit or debit payment functions.
In addition to public transportation services like the Metro, the RTA is planning to extend the card’s services to private operations like Nakheel Monorail and taxis, says Khaleej Times.
The new cards will also contain several extras, including discounts for students and seniors as well as online account management..
The rights to the project are currently up for grabs among local Dubai banks. All offers are due to the RTA by May 20, which will make its decision July 29.
