FileTrail has launched a new RFID-enabled solution for collecting, logging and managing evidence. The RFID Evidence Management program creates an unalterable log that traces each piece of evidence from collection to disposal, thereby guaranteeing a secure chain of custody, according to FileTrail.
The new system uses RFID to track and record where each piece of evidence has been, who has accessed it, and when it was returned. A user can access the system through any browser and search for items based on case number, evidence, type, date, officer, or any other custom field.
For added security, FileTrail allows users to install alarms on doors and building exits to protect evidence from unauthorized removal.
According to FileTrail, the RFID Evidence Management system can cut evidence handling and tracking time by more than 80%.
