Transportation Security Administration Licenses Bioscrypt Core and Purchases MV 1200 Modules for User Verification
TORONTO, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ – Bioscrypt Inc. (TSX: BYT), a leading provider of identity verification technology, announced today that BearingPoint, Inc. has selected software and hardware offerings from Bioscrypt for use in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Prototype Phase of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential Program (TWIC).
The $12 million program awarded to BearingPoint in August is expected to last 11 months, involving some 200,000 transportation workers in three regions and 40 sites including: Camden, N.J., Islip, N.Y., Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del.; the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif.; and the 14 major port facilities in Florida.
The goal of the program is to improve security, enhance commerce and protect personal privacy by establishing a system-wide common credential used across all transportation modes for all personnel requiring unescorted physical and/or logical access to secure areas of the national transportation system.
Bioscrypt’s fingerprint verification technology will be used to verify the identities of transportation workers involved in this prototype program. The Transportation Security Administration has previously announced that, following the prototype, its intent is to deploy the TWIC to 6 million transportation workers.
“We applaud the US federal government’s commitment to enhancing the security of the nation’s transportation facilities using leading-edge technological tools and are extremely proud to be an integral part of the Prototype Phase of the TWIC program,” stated Robert L. Williams, President and CEO, Bioscrypt. “Our inclusion in this significant initiative further supports our belief that there is growing demand for Bioscrypt’s leading fingerprint verification technology as part of US Government programs.”
