Inside Secure has launched a free, open-source NFC protocol stack for Google’s new Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” mobile operating system.
According to Inside, Open NFC 4.3.3 is compliant with the Ice Cream Sandwich release Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) for NFC, and supports all the latest Android NFC features, including Android Beam and WiFi Direct pairing connection.
In addition to the new Android services, Open NFC provides access to card emulation technology and supports the use of multiple secure elements.
Inside has also made the complete open-source HAL for its MicroRead and SecuRead chip platforms available for download. According to Inside, the HAL allows the Open NFC protocol stack to be used immediately with the two chip platforms, and provides a model for developing HALs for NFC chips from other manufacturers.
The stack is free to download from the Open NFC website.
