NXP Semiconductors India is predicting significant mid to long-term growth for contactless ID technology, according to mydigitalfc.com.
NXP says that complex and rapidly changing needs in the identification industry will spur significant growth in the use of contactless smart cards, which have nearly three times the life of traditional contact cards. This advantage will eventually lead to increased ubiquity of the technology – even in users’ homes.
Additionally, NXP sees great potential for the technology in processing individuals to streamline traffic movement.
“Although contact-based ID technology has been around for some time and is popularly used in a number of applications globally, we believe strongly in the future of contactless technology for ID applications,” said Ashok Chandak, NXP India’s senior director of global sales and marketing. “Contactless technologies have a number of advantages over contact-based technologies, especially for developing economies such as India, as it is more resistant to heat, dust, and other environmental hazards.”
