Gemalto will be deploying its Dexxis Instant Issuance solution in Indonesia to enable on-the-spot delivery of microprocessor–based banking cards in an effort to reach citizens spread across 17,500 islands where 90% don’t use, or are not familiar with, banks.
Gemalto’s solution is decentralized instant card issuance–in-person and in-branch. Dexxis includes EMV smart cards, servers, software, printers, and training to deploy the system over a secure TCP/IP trusted network in the banking and retail environment.
By using fingerprint biometric authentication from the software inside the chip, the smart cards provide more security to the cardholder and the issuer. The biometric also simplifies use of the card by eliminating the need to remember the PIN code, which can be a challenge for consumers new to electronic banking.
The card can store various types of secure banking services such as an e-purse, prepaid data, deposit remittances, savings and loans, as well as financial and health insurance. The card also serves as an electronic statement, logging up to 150 transactions, to help cardholders and financial institutions keep track of account activity and eliminating the need for paper statements.
Gemalto is working with local partner SAI (Smart Aplikasi Indonesia), an affiliate of IT Network solutions provider Alita.
