Some German cardholders have had issues conducting payment transactions since the new year, but Gemalto is working with officials to correct the programs. Gemalto supplies bank cards to many German banks and has been working on developing fixes so cardholders can conduct transaction at ATMs and the point-of-sale.
At this stage, according to ZKA (Zentraler Kreditausschuss – the German Central Credit Committee), acceptance of the concerned cards at ATM and point of sales terminals has been re-established in the country. Gemalto payment cards issued for other countries were not affected.
Some 20 million ATM cards and 3.5 million credit cards were affected, according to a report in ITworld.com. The problem is reportedly with a programming issue with ATMs and point-of-sales devices.
