GlobalPlatform published an implementation guideline for smart card-based government identity services. This document, called Card ID Configuration v. 1.0, is the first part in GlobalPlatform’s plan to become the trusted source for government issuing authorities in this segment.
The guide tells government issuing authorities how to implement interoperable chip-based identity solutions that comply with GlobalPlatform Card Specification v2.2. The guide was developed in conjunction with global standards, government security mandates and supports the advanced encryption standard (AES).
GlobalPlatform’s Card ID Configuration is designed to be a central configuration specification to help new and existing issuers deploy up-to-date smart card technology or migrate to the current specifications. This configuration also allows issuing authorities to prepare for supporting services from vertical sectors.
Next, GlobalPlatform will expand its compliance program to validate e-identity products and solutions that comply with the functionality in the Card ID Configuration.
