Globus Supermarkets in the Czech Republic has plans to equip all of its stores with contactless point-of-sale (POS) terminals, following a successful NFC payments trail conducted in conjunction with Telefónica O2, Komerční Banka, Citibank and Visa Europe.
According to NFCWorld.com, three Globus stores in Prague as well as a Globus store in the city of Pilsen all took part in the six month trial. Two hundred clients of both Citibank and Telefónica as well as two hundred common clients of Komerční Banka and Telefónica took part in the trial.
Since the launch of the pilot project back in July, Citibank has seen more than 2,500 payment transactions conducted with a value of more than €1million and a total of 4,500 NFC transactions were carried out by Komerční Banka customers during the trial.
The average amount per transaction was approximately US $20.57. “Eighty percent of transactions were completed on the first attempt and without any problems,” said Globus’ head of IT, Miroslav Exner. New Globus stores will be equipped with contactless terminals from now on.
