Following on the heels of its sponsorship of a privacy forum late last year, contactless access control card and reader provider HID has appointed a government relations director to further proactively address privacy and RFID issues.
IRVINE, Calif.– HID, the premier manufacturer of contactless access control cards and readers for the security industry, announced that it has created a new position to proactively address the use of RFID and associated privacy concerns. The company recognizes that as the use of RFID has expanded in both government and private industry, privacy concerns have emerged. In support of on-going efforts to address these concerns, HID has named Kathleen Carroll as director, government relations. Carroll will report directly to Steve Wagner, HID’s chief operating officer.
As the premier global supplier of contactless access control cards and readers for the security industry, HID has taken a leading role in addressing privacy and related legislative issues. This includes the establishment of privacy principles governing the use of RFID and sponsorship of a privacy forum held in Sacramento in December 2005.
Steve Wagner said HID welcomes the opportunity to take a leadership role in this area. “We recognize the need to forge an approach that genuinely protects individuals’ privacy while allowing our industry to grow such that we can meet the public’s demand for enhanced security and the benefits of dynamic new technologies.”
In this new role, Carroll will oversee HID’s RFID privacy initiatives. As part of her mandate, she will develop educational materials to help legislators gain a better understanding of RFID technology, its benefits and inherent security features. She will also contribute to the development and support of public policies that safeguard individual’s privacy while fostering the responsible use of RFID technology.
“I look forward to using my diverse background in developing communications strategy and materials to help HID solidify its position as the recognized leader in addressing privacy concerns as they relate to RFID technology,” said Carroll.
With nearly 20 years experience in public relations and marketing communications, Carroll has served in a variety of marketing roles, most recently with Towers Perrin. A magna cum laude graduate of Temple University, she holds a bachelor of arts in Journalism. Carroll is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in political science at Villanova University.
