HID unveils multi-tech optical stripe cards
HID Global announced a secure citizen ID cards, featuring technologies that have been proven in its customers’ national passport and other government ID programs, such as the Irish Passport Card. Extending the benefits of its widely issued Optical Secure Media (OSM) card, the company has created an OSM Multitech card that is designed to be one of the most secure citizen ID cards on the market.
The OSM cards combine visual, digital and physical security while delivering high levels of card durability, said Rob Haslam, vice president and managing director for Government ID Solutions at HID Global. Along with the optical stripe technology the credentials can also include a contactless microcontroller chip.
To maximize the security of HID’s Multitech card, issuers can laser-engrave information on its front side, engrave and encode identity information in the OSM stripe on the card’s back side, and encode identity information on the microcontroller chip inside the card. Integrating the contactless chip into a standard-sized card is a milestone that was made possible with HID PC ePre-laminate product, which minimizes the footprint of the RFID chip and antenna using the company’s DBond technology. Anti-crack technology also extends the durability of the card, which is initially available with an NXP P60D080 RFID chip. The company plans to offer additional RFID chip options in the future.
HID Global’s OSM Multitech cards can be used for applications ranging from national and resident alien IDs to health benefit, public welfare and Social Security cards, as well as driver licenses, gun permits and a range of other identification cards.
The new Multitech card’s OSM, DBond and other technologies have been used in numerous high-profile national ID programs, including the Irish Passport Card, as well as programs in Saudi Arabia, Angola and the U.S. The Irish Passport Card is the first and only passport card deployed in Europe for border crossing and has been recognized for its innovative design.
Samsung licensing Precise Biometrics software
Precise Biometrics, a provider of fingerprint software, has entered into a commercial software license and distribution agreement with Samsung’s System LSI Business, a division within Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., for the licensing of Precise Biometrics’ algorithm solution for fingerprint recognition in mobile devices, Precise BioMatch Mobile.
The agreement includes a per unit license fee and an annual fee for support and maintenance. While the per unit license fee is volume dependent and cannot be forecasted by Precise Biometrics at this point, the fee for support and maintenance will be recognized starting from the fourth quarter of 2016.
Evolis demos government, financial solutions at Trustech
Evolis will unveil its new solutions for financial and government markets during Trustech-Cartes 2016.
Two systems for the government market will be showcased:
- Primacy Lamination – combining a new lamination module with the Evolis plastic card printer Primacy. Lamination reduces the risk of fraud and significantly increases the durability of official identification documents or access control badges.
- A mobile biometric registration – this plastic card instant issuance system has been used for the decentralized issuance of 24 million voter cards in Tanzania in 2015. This solution, developed by the integrator Laxton was used for the biometric registration of future voters and the instant issuance of voter cards.
On the financial side, Evolis will showcase its range of printers for the instant issuance of personalized debit or credit cards via self-service terminals. Made up of four printing modules, the range covers many needs, including the encoding of contact or contactless smart cards.
