Leading Access Control Manufacturer Develops Custom Smart Cards for Software Giant
San Jose, CA – Indala recently developed multi-technology, multi-application credentials for Microsoft employees, which enabled network (logical) as well as building (physical) access control. The project specified a new 128KB smart card module combined with a .NET operating system for smart cards, and incorporated FlexEnterprise RFID technology. The new Indala credential is an upgrade of the legacy Indala smart card. Further, the new card is compatible with existing systems, so there will be no disruption of service for the user.
According to Indala president, Marc Freundlich, “This project is the first of its kind. Microsoft has perhaps the largest private sector Windows PKI deployment in the world. And to be able to successfully develop and scale a secure identification solution across Microsoft1s vast operations is very rewarding for all parties involved.”
Toni Brett, Indala card technologist, added, “One of Microsoft’s main project objectives is to permit secure authentication and validation to users wherever they are located. The credential is far more secure for remote access sessions, and offers the flexibility for users to work on multiple machines.”
Microsoft credential deployment takes place via decentralized identity offices. To issue a card, both local ID verification and centralized certificate authorization must be approved. Identity officers are able to program both the physical and logical access rights to the Indala card, providing the user a single, secure credential for the workplace.
