Intermec Inc. has announced it will create an “easy scan” ski pass system for several ski resorts owned by Vail Resorts. The system will use RFID technology to give skiers and snowboarders holding 2008-2009 season passes the option to keep their passes inside their jacket and be automatically scanned by a Vail Resorts employee in the lift line.
The Intermec solution combines its CN3 mobile computers with IP30 handheld RFID readers. The modularity of the IP30 makes the system design easy to modify and expand, and the CN3 also integrates GPS and Bluetooth technologies to increase efficiency and safety by enabling hands-free turn-by-turn voice navigation
Vail Resorts will use the new system at its Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone resorts in Colorado, and at Heavenly on the California-Nevada border.
“With Intermec RFID readers, we will be able to significantly enhance our guest experience by making the lift line process easier and more convenient for our guests who have purchased any of our four season pass products,” stated Robert Urwiler, chief information officer for Vail Resorts.
