Isis, the mobile commerce joint venture between AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, has announced that fuel dispenser technology providers Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Wayne will integrate Isis’s SmartTap technology in select gas pumps in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City to accompany Isis’s official market launch later this summer.
The upgraded pumps will allow customers to pay for gas, earn loyalty points and redeem offers all with a tap of an NFC-enabled mobile phone, according to Isis.
“The gas pump is one of the most frequented point-of-sale environments, and a critically important addition to the mobile commerce marketplace,” said Scott Mulloy, chief technology officer of Isis. “It creates an important opportunity for convenience stores to enhance the customer experience, thereby increasing loyalty and in-store traffic.”
Gilbarco Veeder-Root will equip its modular payment architecture to accept SmartTap in new, factory-installed fuel dispensers and retrofitted fuel dispensers, while Wayne, a GE company, will integrate the SmartTap mobile commerce application into the contactless reader used with Wayne’s iX Pay Secure Payment solution.
Wayne and Gilbarco Veeder-Root are the latest addition to a growing list of Isis partners, which includes Coca-Cola, Champs Sports, Dillard’s, Foot Locker, Jamba Juice and Macy’s, in addition to a host of local merchants in Salt Lake City and Austin.
