J.C. Penney trials RFID technology, self- and mobile checkout

Beginning this fall, J.C. Penney will start to test the use of RFID tags on store merchandise, according to dallasnews.com.
All merchandise will be tagged with the technology, said Ron Johnson, chief executive office, J.C. Penney. The American department store operates more than 1,107 department stores in all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.
Johnson also said self-checkouts and mobile checkouts are also coming to Penney stores, made possible with the new RFID tags.
