Law forces change to Tufts student IDs

Tufts University near Boston is redoing its campus ID cards to comply with a 2007 state law that established stricter regulations on financial account numbers. Even though the university no longer uses Social Security numbers as student identifiers, Massachusetts schools now can no longer use the same number that IDs both the student and his financial information.
Tufts’ declining balance account for its students is called JumboCash. The student’s ID number is also his JumboCash number, while the new cards will feature a student ID number and a different JumboCash number. Freshmen have already been issued the new cards.
