Lockheed Martin, a developer of various security technologies, has successfully completed the critical design review for a biometrics system being designed for the FBI as part of their Next Generation Identification Program (NGI). The fingerprint technology being incorporated into the NGI system is being provided by biometrics developer MorphoTrak.
Lockheed has been working on the fingerprint identification portion of the FBI’s eventual system, however, the final system will be multimodal, include multiple biometric modalities. In addition to the planned biometric capabilities, the NGI system is expected to have room left for significant upgrades to existing infrastructure as well as additions of other modes of biometrics as they become more useful to the FBI.
