The Zoological Society of London is tagging tiny stingers – wasps – with equally miniature RFID tags.
The purpose of fitting the buzzers with tags – as well as placing sensors at the entrance of each nest to record their movements – is to gather information on the insects’ behavior.
The scientists tagged every female worker wasp, fitting a total of 422 tags, with readers placed at each of the 33 nests.
