Maine medical center implements biometrics

In an effort to simplify and better secure their health information systems, Brunswick, Maine-based Parkview Adventist Medical Center has implemented a new biometric solution, according to an Advance Web article. The system is an product from medical technology developers Medtech and biometric developer Imprivata. It includes single sign-on via fingerprint authentication that enables password management within multiple application and workstation authentications.
Hospital employees have report that it enables them to access patient data more quickly, allows for access to work stations more quickly, and eases frustrations with password recovery when passwords have been forgotten or compromised. Additionally, the new system has made the hospital more compliant with state and federal regulations and saved money due to cut costs associated with password recovery.
