Malaysia’s national ID card, MyKad, has multiple smart card uses

Malaysia’s national identification card, the MyKad, is reported as being the world’s first national ID card and one of the largest issuances of dual interface technology according to The Hindu paper. MyKad has been issued to all citizens and contains secured applications for national identification, drivers license, e-passport, health card, ATM card, public key infrastructure and contactless payments. With Immigration Management solution, the Immigration Department can now issue citizens with Smart Passports where security biometric chips are embedded into them for automated data capturing and authentication. The cards are manufactured by Malaysian-based HeiTech Padu Berhad and cover all of Malaysia and three provinces in Indonesia.
