Massachusetts General Hospital has implemented an RFID-enabled supply automation system by Mobile Aspects to store, track and manage its medical devices and supplies.
The system known as iRISupply uses passive RFID technology and real-time data management to automate clinician work flows and streamline communication processes for product storage tracking and supply chain management.
MGH implemented this system to manage the storage and utilization of high cost implantable devices such as coils, stents and catheters. The hospital experienced an increase in charge capture accuracy of nearly 25% by tracking these high cost items, as well as a decrease in the occurrence of special requisitions by 50% through avoidance of stock-outs and rush orders.
