category: Biometrics
The U.S. Patent Office has recently confirmed that Microsoft has a gaming development that could enable for real-time biometrics for multi-player gaming.
The patent – uncovered by PatentBolt.com – shows a technology that would enable gamers to quickly and easily join a video game session already in progress using advanced biometrics. The biometric capture method includes a temporal sequence of the user’s facial images at different locations within a three-dimensional interaction area.
Also included is face descriptor extraction using the images thus generating a biometric template compiling the facial descriptors.
The interactive 3D interaction area is a major component of Microsoft’s new tech. The XBOX Kinect camera will likely be used to observe the 3D interaction space by capturing images and subsequently to identify users by detecting one or more of their biometric features.
The use of biometrics for identification will allow the user to be recognized by the gaming system and be linked with a user account. Once registered with a gaming system, the joining a game in progress would be quick and easy and would not require log in activity.
