Microsoft will unveil two RFID-oriented software packs for its BizTalk enterprise connectivity software suite. The RFID enhancements are part of Monday’s first public beta release of BizTalk Server 2009, which takes advantage of virtualization and enhanced failover clustering featured in Windows Server 2008.
The new RFID offerings include BizTalk RFID Mobile, which extends BizTalk RFID capabilities to Windows Mobile and Windows CE systems. Using the software, a device with a mobile reader can be integrated into an RFID system.
Also available is BizTalk RFID Standards Pack, which supports the Tag Data Translator standard and Low Level Reader Protocol. Tag Data Translator can enable translation of one representation of of the standard data to another representation, while Low Level Reader Protocol can enable host-to-reader communication in a standard way.
A number of RFID technology suppliers, including Ship2Save and Cathexis, have already announced updates to their systems supporting the new BizTalk RFID software options.
