Finnish wireless operators Sonera and Elisa have partnered to offer a mobile authentication and signature service to its subscribers.

Mobile authentication company Valimo provided its Mobile ID product for this offering, that lets the wireless subscribers create legally binding electronic signatures for applications such as internet banking, e-commerce and e-government products.

With this Mobiilivarmenne service, a user generates a secure digital signature with a PIN code, which is then authenticated using PKI. This product’s client software, back office servers and security modules can be installed on any SIM card.

Valimo’s Finnish FiCom 2.0 specifications allow for personal data to be incorporated into the digital signature. This spec can be used with services and applications that require legally binding identity confirmation and approval.
