The University of Missouri will be making approximately $450,000 worth of upgrades to its student ID system, along with a few other minor adjustments, according to a campus student newspaper.
The campus will replace its outdated card readers and install a new host and network for the student ID system. Additionally, the host server that manages the campus’ entire card system is being switched to a new operating system – from Unix to Windows.
The system to be upgraded is the one that processes student ID card transactions, and officials note that no additional student fees will be made to account for the upgraded transaction system.
Campus officials say the new system will also allow them to reduce the cost of replacing a lost or stole student ID card. Student ID card replacement charges are being lowered from $20 to $15.
Another update includes providing Greek Life and Department of Student Activities with card readers for various events they host, which will them to monitor attendance and gain additional statistics from those in attendance, which helps with collecting information and to better future events.
