NEC Corp. has announced it has deployed a new automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) to the Anhui Province Public Safety Authority that will focus on assisting law enforcement with screening criminals and suspects based on fingerprints left at crime scenes.
The new system includes more than 1800 AFIS terminals with an additional 500 planned for future expansion and operates by comparing submitted fingerprint samples and immediately be able to compare them to stored samples to find a match.
Additionally, the new system is designed to be able to solve the problem of interoperability between provinces by being large enough to register up to ten million people and find matches within those ten million in about 30 seconds.
