The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, has begun installing Salto System’s XS4 wire-free security solution as part of a major rolling access control system upgrade.
Vision Systems, Salto’s southern African distributor has already installed the university campus’ first 30 units into lecture venues, computer labs and administration offices; with an additional 30 on the way.
This newly installed access control security solution consists of WRM9001 and 9001FS wall readers working together with Mifare proximity controlled E9450 electronic escutcheons in both off line as well as wireless on line models.
The system integrates with the University’s custom in-house software program that incorporates all the information about the students and staff, to enable locks and key cards can be updated, restricted, or deleted remotely.
The smart key cards, which are currently standard prox cards but due to be replaced by combo cards shortly, also serve as student and staff ID cards and have photo identification and cashless vending capabilities.
