The Tribhuvan University of Nepal has started issuing electronic ID cards to address issues surrounding non-students reaping benefits in transport fare discounts meant exclusively for students, according to The Himalayan Times.
Campus officials say that use of electronic ID cards will provide relief to both student and transport authority owners as non-students will not be able to cheat them.
The university has 182,000 students in its constituent campuses and 120,000 in affiliated campuses. The government issues a 45% discount to TU students traveling by public transport with a valid student ID.
