Southco, a developer of latching systems and engineered access hardware, has teamed up with biometrics developer Digitus Biometrics to create and launch an electromechanical latch with an integrated fingerprint-based lock system to secure server racks, according to a Product Design & Development article.
The new solution, called db ServerRack, uses Southco’s H3-EM with Digitus’ fingerprint sensor and Digitus Access Software that communicates with a central database over a simple RJ-45 connection.
Among the features the two companies are touting with the new solution is the ease with which it can be retrofitted to existing server racks due to the piece coming in both left and right doors as well as the smart components located in only the handle.
Additionally, the ability to be managed remotely from a desktop computer increases accountability while removing needs for other costly security solutions such as keys, cards or PIN access.
