Google has introduced a new “Save to Wallet” API that enables customers to save offers directly from a merchant’s website into their Google Wallet app with the click of a button.
According to Google, customer can redeem saved coupons by either tapping their phone against an NFC reader at the point of sale or by presenting an offer code to the cashier. Customers will be reminded of unused offers every time they open their Google Wallet app, ensuring that no deal goes to waste.
The API also enables merchants to add a “Save to Google Wallet” button to their existing website by copying and pasting a JavaScript snippet provided upon registration. Customers need only click the button to save the offer to their mobile phone.
“The Save-To-Wallet API is part of the vision for Google Wallet to be the one-stop-shop for holding everything you’d carry in a regular wallet,” said Google on its Developers site.
