The Middle Country Public Library in Centereach, N.Y. implemented a self-check and self-return system all made possible with the aid of RFID technology, according to libn.com.
Replacing the library’s bar code system, RFID technology will enable patrons to check out items on their own using self-check kiosks and return items through a 24-hour drive through return station.
The return station scans the returned items RFID tag immediately, capturing information such as the title of a book. The sorting service will automatically drop materials into bins based on information captured by their RFID code, completely automating the sorting process after returns.
This not only makes the checking in and out materials easier, but also allows staff to spend more time working with patrons and increasing customer satisfaction.
