New York mayor wants biometric social security cards

Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York City, has announced his interest in including biometric data on Social Security cards, according to a WCAX article.
While Bloomberg’s interest in the enhanced social security cards is intended to increase employer’s abilities to discern whether or not an applicant is a legal U.S. citizen prior to employment, critics of such a program are expressing their worries over costs and privacy issues. The announcement for Bloomberg’s thoughts on enhanced social security cards, which would utilize fingerprint data, came following a meeting with the mayor and President Obama over immigration issues.
