Deployment includes handset with iris recognition
NTT DOCOMO is implementing the Qualcomm Snapdragon Sense ID biometrics platform and Nok Nok Labs S3 Authentication Suite to deliver strong authentication to the mobile carrier’s customers and devices.
The biometric system is being utilized alongside third-party biometric sensors for DOCOMO’s mobile authentication service starting in Japan. The DOCOMO service including “DOCOMO ID login authentication and carrier billing payment” will help provide customers with better security, as well as ease of authentication when making mobile payments and accessing DOCOMO’s content and services.
With the Snapdragon Sense ID biometrics platform, DOCOMO has provided customers with a solution that is designed to address the limitations of passwords and PINs.
DOCOMO is expected to launch the online authentication service with smartphones from Sharp and Fujitsu utilizing the Snapdragon Sense ID biometrics platform and plans to expand its biometric authentication offering to additional high-end devices in the winter. It is anticipated that many Android devices launching on the DOCOMO network with services, including “docomo ID login authentication and carrier billing payment,” will utilize the Snapdragon Sense ID biometrics platform.
DOCOMO customers will be able to access online services from the carrier and other companies using biometric authentication such as fingerprint-sensors and iris-recognition from FIDO-enabled smartphones recently announced by Sharp, Fujitsu and Samsung.
By adopting and deploying FIDO certifiedsolutions from Nok Nok Labs, DOCOMO has achieved a milestone by becoming:
The first carrier to offer a billing system that is enabled by the FIDO Ecosystem – users will enjoy streamlined online shopping by using FIDO authentication with DOCOMO partners to purchase goods and services, and the purchase will appear on the customer’s DOCOMO monthly invoice.
The first company to offer a Federated Identity system integrated with the FIDO Ecosystem – docomo ID is a federated identity service that enables the user to access many of its consumer services with one ID, streamlining the authentication process and eliminating multiple authentication steps
The first to jointly launch a FIDO ecosystem with multiple mobile device manufacturers – the Fujitsu ARROWS F-04G, Sharp AQUOS SH-03 and Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge all come preloaded with docomo ID and FIDO-support
The first to offer a mobile device — Fujitsu ARROWS F-04G — that authenticates via the iris biometric modality – previous deployments have used the fingerprint sensor.
DOCOMO serves more than 65 million customers in Japan.
