NXP Semiconductors has been selected to take part in the implementation of Germany’s nationwide ticketing standard, VDV Kernapplikation (VDV-KA).
NXP’s SmartMX family of secure microcontrollers enables an interoperable public transport ticketing scheme. More than five million contactless card based on NXP’s SmartMX technology has been supplied to the cities of Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg in support of the e-Ticket Deutschland program.
With the NXP MIFARE technology there is an opportunity to leverage existing contactless infrastructure for multi-applications, adding more convenience and security to its end users.
Additionally, NXP’s SmartMX technology has been adopted in NFC-enabled mobile phones, which corresponds with VDV’s plans to use smart phones as a new modern form factor in public transport.
