Tallmadge Middle School in Ohio is set to install and implement a new biometric system for its lunch programs that the students use starting in the spring, according to a Tallmadge Express article.
The system, which is the same as the one that has been used for the last two years at Tallmadge High School, uses a fingerprint that points to a debit account called EZpay rather than cash to pay for lunches each day.
Among the positives school officials point to are the convenience for students where lines are quicker and parents have more control over their students’ spending at school.
Additionally, parents have been relieved to not have to race to school with lunch money that was forgotten or lost as they can simply load the account from any computer at anytime. School Superintendent Jeff Ferguson has also discussed plans to implement a similar system in the area’s elementary schools but need to consider the lack of usable fingerprints on children younger than fifth grade and find a new way to connect the students to their EZpay accounts.
