Misconceptions about RFID and contactless in America continue to challenge the industry as it tries to grow. According to the San Jose Mercury News, the European Union recently decided not to impose any RFID-focused legislation, and would allow the industry to govern itself. Many feel that proposed legislation in California limiting RFID/contactless will be just like the other regulated technological mandates: often ineffective or outdated by the time they become law. Just like the attempts to regulate e-mail spam.
